1. GIGABYTE B450M DS3H

Best Pick

Gigabyte is a well-known motherboard manufacturer that’s been around since 1986 and has a long history of producing quality hardware.

The B450M DS3H is their latest flagship motherboard, and it’s designed to support both AMD and Intel CPUs. That means you can upgrade your system to the latest Ryzen CPUs, and it’ll still work with older CPUs like the i3 and Pentium.

While there are some great features on this board, it’s overpriced. The baseboard is about $120, but you can add all the extras to make the total price slightly higher.

For example, you can get the iTE I/O Controller chip for $16, which is great because it’s compatible with all modern motherboards that use this type of controller.

You can also get a better video card for the same price. I was originally going to go with the MSI Gaming X AC, but the Gigabyte B450M DS3H is a better value.

That said, I do like the sound and RGB LEDs on this board. What kind of lighting are you into? This is a great feature.

Pros

  • Supports AMD 1st and 2nd generation Ryzen.
  • Dual channel non-ECC unbuffered DDR4, 4 DIMMs.
  • HDMI and DVI D ports for multiple displays.

2. ASRock B450M PRO4

The B450M PRO4 is an excellent motherboard, and its design is similar to the Asus ROG Strix B450-I Gaming.

It features four DDR4 slots that support memory speeds up to DDR4-3200, dual PCI-E 3.0 x16 slots, and dual PCI-E 2.0 x16 slots. You can use up to 64GB of memory, and the BIOS supports overclocking.

You find dual-channel memory support in the form of four DDR4-3200 DDR4 DIMMs and dual-channel support in the form of two DDR4-2933 DDR4 DIMMs.

The motherboard also features eight SATA 6Gbps ports, a single SATA 6Gbps port, and a single SATA 3Gbps port. This motherboard is designed for gaming but is also great for general computing.

There are plenty of expansion slots, including two PCI-E 3.0 x16 slots, two PCI-E 2.0 x16 slots, and one PCI-E 2.0 x1 slot.

This board has six SATA 6Gbps ports, a single SATA 3Gbps port, and a single SATA 6Gbps port. This motherboard also supports Intel Z370 chipsets and AMD B450 chipsets.

You can use a graphics card with up to 16 lanes of PCIe 3.0 x16 bandwidth and up to 32 lanes of PCIe 3.0 x16 bandwidth.

3. MSI B450-A PRO

Staff Pick

The B450-A PRO from MSI is a solid choice for enthusiasts who want to build a powerful PC.

AMD Ryzen is MSI’s most powerful platform yet, and it supports the latest generation of CPUs with an excellent range of features.

The Ryzen chipset supports dual-channel memory, making it ideal for gaming and other CPU-intensive tasks.

The X-Boost feature lets you adjust the USB and storage performance.

If you are interested in audio, the Audio Boost option will let you choose between studio-grade sound quality and a Hi-Fi experience.

The motherboard has some ports, including two USB 3.1 ports, two USB 3.0 ports, four USB 2.0 ports, three HDMI ports, an SD card slot, and a VGA port.

4. GIGABYTE X470 AORUS ULTRA GAMING

We tested the Gigabyte X470 AORUS Gaming 7 motherboard at home during CES 2020. The AORUS features many of the same features as the MSI MEG X570 Ace, including dual PCIe 4.0 x16 slots, an 8-pin power connector, and many others.

The board is made with a very solid and sturdy design, and the connectors are reinforced. If you notice anything weak, it is the USB 3.1 Gen 2 front ports.

The rear of the board features a large heatsink with two fan headers. A PWM chip controls the fans, and the default settings are set to run at 2800 RPM, but you can adjust the fan speed.

The Gigabyte board supports both Crossfire and SLI graphics cards, and it is designed to handle up to two of either.

Plenty of digital pins exist, and the PWM chip is set to a lower value, so you do not need to worry about the CPU temperature getting too high.

You can also enable audio over HDMI; the audio jacks have a 120dB SNR rating. The board features an X470 chipset, which is backward compatible with previous motherboards, and the USB 3.1 Gen 2 front ports will work on the latest devices.

The board doesnt support Intels Thunderbolt 3 standard, but it does feature six SATA 6 Gbps ports, which is more than enough for any storage device.

The Gigabyte AORUS is one of the better motherboards we tested in the past year, and it’s a great option for people who want to build a gaming PC.

This is your option if you’re looking for a new motherboard and want something that will last.
